Concurrent Enrollment @ Salt Lake Community College
NEW INFORMATION! Certificate of Completions for High School Students
Over the last year our office has been trying to get word out on a relatively new credential that exists at SLCC. That credential is the One-Year Certificate of Completion. This is a transferrable credential that students can take with them to any USHE institution, and is currently recognized at other higher education institutions within the Intermountain Region.
This is a much more feasible and attainable option for most high school students over the associate’s degree. Students who attempt to earn the associate’s degree in high school can get burned out, and, without good academic planning, can end up accumulating useless credits that doesn’t help them toward the major they are pursuing. The One-Year Certificate allows a student to package all of their general education requirements so that the school they transfer to allows them to jump right into their major courses and does not pick and choose which courses it will or will not take.
The attached documents outline the requirements for the Certificate of Completion. Courses Highlighted in yellow are currently available through concurrent enrollment. The first document shows the basic requirements for the certificate, the second show the distribution areas that are mentioned at the bottom of the first document, with CE classes highlighted in yellow. These documents can also be found on the Partners section of our website under “Counselor Resources”.
